LeMay employs innovation for solar panel canopy

MARTASUN-Solar-CanopyThe MARTA Laredo Bus Mainenance Facility Solar Canopy is a 1.17 mega watt solar power project with a future expansion capacity of up to 2.5 mega watts.  Also known as the MARTA Sun project, it is the largest solar project in Georgia and the second largest transit system solar project in the country.

LeMay Electric Inc. built the canopy, which is a 190,000-square-foot steel structure spanning an existing 220-capacity MARTA bus parking lot.

Half of the canopy supports 4,900 240-watt solar panels and the other half has perforated metal roofing panels to provide shade for the buses.  The canopies are equiped with 710 light-emitting diode fixtures to provide energy efficient lighting.

LeMay Electric Wins 2012 IEC Atlanta Safety Award

Atlanta, GA – On Friday, July 20 the IEC Atlanta Chapter held it’s Annual Apprenticeship Graduation Ceremonies, at which time the 2012 Safety Awards were announced. In the mid-size company category, LeMay Electric was chosen as the winner for the 2012 Safety Award. This is the second time that LeMay Electric has won the IEC Atlanta Safety Award. In 2011, LeMay won the IEC/CNA Safety Award for their size company.
Accepting the award for LeMay Electric was owner Tom LeMay and superintendent, Russell Shell. To be considered for the safety award companies were required to complete an application which included detailed statistical information on safety records, as well as make a presentation to a panel of judges that included a local OSHA Compliance Officer and several safety professionals.

Press Release - LeMay Electric, Inc. Receives 2011 IEC/CNA Safety Award

LeMay Electric, Inc. wins the 2011 IEC / CAN Safety Award for its commitment in working to maintain a safe work environment.

The award was presented by a panel of safety experts from across the country to LeMay Electric, Inc. at this year’s National Independent Electrical Contractors Association convention in Louisville, KY. LeMay Electric, Inc. has promoted a safe work place for their employees for the past 28 years and strives to educate, improve and to remain committed to safe job site operations.

2011 “The Extra Mile” Award

DSC04405Congratulations to James Wesley who was presented with “The Extra Mile” award at the 2011 IEC Apprentice Graduation this past June 17th, 2011.

James is a second year IEC instructor who has gone the extra mile in his work with the IEC curriculum. James has worked on the development of the new IEC On-Line Apprenticeship program where Atlanta is viewed as the leader for internet based training.  James spends many hours working with the IEC in Atlanta and has also participated in curriculum development with the IEC National in Phoenix, AZ earlier this year. Thank you for your service to our industry James.

3 Apprentices Graduate in 2011

DSC04408LeMay Electric is proud to graduate three more electrician apprentices to Journeyman status in 2011.

Blake Barron, Jeff Elkins and Greg Hilyard have successfully completed the requirements of the Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training to advance to Journeyman Electrician status. All three of these men placed in very strong positions in their class. Jeff Elkins placed second in the apprentice of the Year competition and Greg Hilyard placed third.

LeMay Electric, Inc. remains dedicated to investment in a quality work force as our trade is best learned through formal apprenticeship training.

We are proud to be members of The Independent Electrical Contractors Association and to have a part in the advancement of these men to journeymen status in our trade.
